“Spotlight on Hollywood” To Shine Brighter Than Ever!

On June 11 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band crowd-favorite “Spotlight” gala concert fundraiser rolls out the red carpet again after a three-year hiatus. Dress to impress as the show expands from its Broadway roots to spotlight Hollywood and the greatest music from the world of film.

On Saturday, June 11 when Spotlight on Hollywood returns after a three year hiatus, the audience will hear much more than:

  • The San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band (the Official Band of San Francisco)
  • Guest Artistic Director Dr. Dee Spencer
  • Host and Performer Donna Sachet, “First Lady of the Castro”
  • Special Guest: legendary vocalist Renée Lubin of Beach Blanket Babylon fame

Joining them to perform music from some of Hollywood’s greatest films are several members from the Band’s own ranks:

  • Mike Wong, Artistic Director of Marching & Pep Programs, will sing “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
  • Jessica Quiroga and friends Chris Mills, Nick Setnik, and Alice Shen will perform That Thing You Do
  • Mike Mehr, who will play the main theme from Days of Wine and Roses

Spotlight on Hollywood will feature music from classic films, including Jurassic Park, Aladdin, The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, Purlie,West Side Story, and many more!

Evening amenities will include movie theater concessions, five-star beverages, and an exciting assortment of live and silent auction prizes, which will help support the Band’s continuing mission as the first openly gay musical organization in the world. As the Band’s most important fundraiser event of the year, we hope you walk the red carpet with us on June 11!
