San Francisco, CA, November 19, 2023 — Each year, San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band — the Official Band of San Francisco — blends Tchaikovsky’s classic The Nutcracker ballet with a new entertaining theme and storyline. The result is a fun-filled original musical production brimming with wit, artistry, and ingenuity. When the “Dance Along!” sign flashes, the audience is invited to get out of their seats and sashay around the theater. Even audience members who don’t want to dance have a blast! Part comedy musical, part dance-it-yourself ballet, and part symphonic concert, Dance-Along Nutcracker features the holiday fun and tradition you’ve come to expect from this San Francisco favorite.
This year, Dance-Along Nutcracker takes a spooky turn as the spirit of Halloween continues into December! Clara and Fritz have only ever known Christmas Town, but one Christmas Eve, when their Uncle visits from Halloween Town, they decide to sneak away and investigate Halloween Town for themselves. Join them to meet several spooky denizens and of course learn some important life lessons along the way!
From Artistic Director Pete Nowlen: “This is my 10th year directing the show and I’m excited to take the Dance-Along Nutcracker somewhere it hasn’t been before. Over the decades, we’ve taken the Nutcracker family of Clara, Fritz, and others to all kinds of places: Hawaii, the wild west, outer space, under the sea, and over the rainbow to Oz. But, for the first time, we’re merging two holidays into one. We will mash together the fun, spooky spirit of Halloween – a holiday taken VERY seriously in San Francisco – with the pure family joy of the winter holidays. Audiences are sure to love it!”
Tickets start at $27 for children and $45 for adults, with premium seating and sponsor packages available. For tickets and more details, visit DanceAlongNutcracker.org.
