Dear Supporter,
Playing with Pride since 1978, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band’s mission, in part, is to unite diverse communities through public musical performances. In our 42 year history, the Band has fulfilled our mission with poise and calm, despite numerous crises. At the height of the HIV / AIDS crisis and as Band musicians themselves were fighting the disease, the Band developed the beloved Dance-Along Nutcracker® in 1985. Through the Loma Prieta earthquake and the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the Band put on brave faces and played on. In fact, on 9/11/01, when all other local arts organizations cancelled their performances, the Band performed one of its Community Concerts for a large and appreciative audience.
COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) is an entirely different story.
The Band respects the public health orders issued by San Francisco Mayor London Breed and California Governor Gavin Newsom in the shared hope that these measures will mitigate the potential impact of this virus on human life. As such, the Band is now on hiatus and working on musical projects virtually. Our return from hiatus depends on revised public health orders in the coming weeks and months.
While our rehearsals and performances are temporarily suspended, the Band still has financial obligations to fulfill. If you are able and so inclined, please consider making a donation to the band. Your generosity, especially in these uncertain times, is very much appreciated.
Our mission is dear to us, but the health of our musicians and audience members takes priority. Please follow public health guidance issued by your local authorities and stay up-to-date on current events through reliable sources.
When this is over, your Band will play on.
On behalf of our Membership, thank you for your support of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Official Band of San Francisco.
Playing with Pride,
