Neon to New Orleans – Fall Community Concert

Sunday, September 27, 2026 · 3:00 PM PDT

Journey across America through the timeless evolution of jazz. Along the way, we’ll embrace the simple joys of life, the optimism born of hope and peace, and the communal spirit of a New Orleans jazz funeral, where mourning and celebration move together in an unforgettable expression of life. We’ll discover our mutual connections through gospel and soul, find empowerment through swing and dance, celebrate innovation, and experience the chaotic glow of a monster-ravaged Sin City.

Featuring an array of featured soloists, intimate jazz ensembles, and the full power of the big band, we’ll travel through sound and time, exploring personal, cultural, and universal experiences that have shaped—and been shaped by—jazz.

The San Francisco Pride Band is conducted by Matthew Fell, who joined the organization earlier this year as Artistic Director of the Concert Band program. Matthew has curated a story to remember: Jazz is never still—it moves, it grows, it consumes cities, and it survives.

The program features:

  • At a New Orleans Jazz Funeral by Jared Spears
  • What a Wonderful World arranged by Lewis
  • Jitterbug! by Robert Buckley
  • Come Sunday by Omar Thomas
  • Big City Lights by Marie A. Douglas
  • Godzilla Eats Las Vegas! by Eric Whitacre

This concert has been made possible by a grant from the Horizons Foundation and the San Francisco Grants for the Arts.
